Round Robins
This page features examples and information about virtual round robin quilts. These are
quilts that exist only in cyberspace. They were all designed by groups of Electric Quilt
software users. Robins are a great way to "meet" some new people with common interests. It
can be fun and challenging when you try to get into someone else's head as a designer!

What is a Round Robin?
Here's how it works:
 |
Robin-member #1 starts the project. She (or he) picks colors and fabrics, and
designs the quilt center. This is usually done in the center of a 1x1 horizontal
quilt. She saves her design in the Sketchbook and adds notecard information. She
saves it as
an EQ
project
and
e-mails
it to member
#2. |
 |
Robin-member #2 opens the project in EQ, and adds a border. She saves the second
quilt in the sketchbook and adds notecard information. She then re-saves the project
(the center block plus one border) and e-mails it to member
#3. |
 |
Robin-member #3 opens the project in EQ, adds another border, saves it in the
sketchbook, adds notecard information, and resaves the project and sends it to member
#4. |
 |
Robin-member #4 opens the project, adds a border, saves it in the sketchbook,
adds notecard information, resaves it and sends it to member # 1, who is dying to
see
what everyone
has done
with her
center! |
 |
Member #1 opens the project, shouts with joy, and decides whether it needs a final border or binding edge. When she is satisfied, she sends the final version to all the other members of the group and also to us so we can post it on a webpage. |
The Round Robin possibilities are endless. Your collaborative efforts and combined creativity can lead to amazing results.
What are Notecards?
Notecards are important for telling the story of the quilt. To fill out notecard information, click View Sketchbook then the Quilts tab. Scroll to find your quilt and click the Notecard button. Put your name in the NAME field and a message to the people before or after you in the NOTES field.
Example:
NAME: Border 2 by Andrea Poulimenos
REFERENCE:
NOTES: I just love the center you made Daphne! You can really draw appliqué well.
I thought I'd bring back the emphasis to your appliqué center after Nancy's awesome
pieced border. Since I have no faith in my drawing abilities, I copied the flowers from your
basket center and pasted them on a meandering vine from the library. It didn't
turn out half bad! I can't
wait
to
see
what
you guys come
up
with. Best wishes from your friend in Ohio... Andrea
