What is EQ4 Doctor?
EQ4 Doctor is a free utility for EQ4.1 users. The doctor can help:
- If your EQ4.1 has been working fine, but you suddenly receive an error message when trying to open the program.
- If you've played with EQ4.1, and now want to restore the program's settings to the way they were "just out of the box."
- If you need to link to other programs such as Sew Precise, STASH, or BlockBase.
How do I get EQ4 Doctor?
Follow the directions below to download and install EQ4 Doctor on your computer's hard
drive.
How long does EQ4 Doctor take to download?
Depending on your modem speed, the capabilities of your Internet Service Provider (ISP),
and overall Internet traffic, downloading the EQ4 Doctor should take 10 minutes or considerably
less. Download EQ4 Doctor directly onto your hard drive. If you have trouble downloading,
it may be that the site is busy. Try again another time.
Who can use EQ4 Doctor?
Owners of Electric Quilt version 4.1 can use EQ4 Doctor. (If you have EQ 4.0, get the 4.1
update, then get EQ4 Doctor.)
I don't see a Desktop icon. How do I run EQ4 Doctor?
You open EQ4 Doctor by choosing Start - Programs - Electric Quilt - EQ Doctor.
Does this mean I no longer need to use EQSetup on my Electric Quilt menu?
Yes. You should delete EQSetup. To do this, choose Start - Programs
- Electric Quilt - point to EQSETUP and right-click
- choose Delete.
DOWNLOADING EQ4 DOCTOR
Download EQ4 Doctor
- Before you download EQ4 Doctor, close other programs running. Then click on the underlined words above. A "File Download " box appears.
- Have the "Save this program to disk" option selected and click OK.
- A "Save As" box appears. Click the down arrow beside the "Save in:" box. A list drops down.
- Save EQ4 Doctor wherever you would like to save it (where you can find it again). Do
not save it in the EQ4 folder.
- Click the Save button. EQ4 Doctor will be saved wherever you have selected in the Save in box.
(Note: If this is not how your browser works, then right-click on the underlined project file above.
If you're in Netscape:
- You'll get a pop-up box that lists options.
- The second item from the bottom is "Save Link As...." Click on this.
- The "Save As..." box will appear and you can move to whatever folder you'd like to save EQ4 Doctor in. Do not save it in the EQ4 folder.
If you're in Internet Explorer:
- You'll get a pop-up box that lists options.
- The third item from the top is "Save Target As...." Click on this.
- A "File Download" box will appear. Choose the option "Save this program to disk," click OK, and then the "Save As..." box
will appear. You can move to whatever folder you'd like to save EQ4 Doctor in. Do not save
it in the EQ4 folder.
INSTALLING EQ4 DOCTOR
- Install EQ4 Doctor by going to My Computer, opening the folder you saved the eqdoctor.exe
file in, and double-clicking on the file: eqdoctor.exe
- If you get an error message, cancel, then try installing EQ4 Doctor again.
RUNNING EQ4 DOCTOR
Following a successful installation, run EQ Doctor by choosing Start - Programs - Electric Quilt - EQ Doctor.
You'll see a dialog box with three options:
- (Button 1) Restore Initialization File
If your EQ has been running just fine but suddenly you receive an error message when you try to open it, click button 1. Your
linked blocks and fabrics will remain linked.
- (Button 2) Restore Default EQ4 Settings
If you've used button 1 and your EQ still does not open, the use button 2. This will restore your program to its original settings.
Your linked blocks and fabrics will remain linked.
- (Button 3) Check or Add Links
If you need to link other programs like BlockBase, Sew Precise or STASH, then click button 3.
