Installing EQ6 on Vista, I got an error 42, could not initialize. What should I do?
This error 42 is Vista’s way of asking you for more permission. Here’s what to do:
The short way:
- Hold down your keyboard SHIFT key and Right-click the EQ6 shortcut on your desktop.
- Choose Run As, or Run..., or Run As Administrator from the menu.
- Allow this, then continue on with the activation.
The long way:
- Click START > Computer.
- Double-click on your local disk C drive.
- Double-click these folders: Program Files > Electric Quilt Company >
EQ6.
- In the opened EQ6 folder you will see two red and white files.
- Right-click on the red and white EQ6 file that is an application file.
- Choose Run as administrator.
- Choose to Allow this and then continue with the activation.
I have the EQ6 Upgrade and am having trouble installing EQ5 first. Any suggestions?
There are 2 installations on the EQ5 CD which both install the same program (just in different ways).
The first installation (which starts up automatically each time you insert the CD) works for about 90% of customers on Vista.
The second installation is in a folder called "Install2" on the CD, and works for 100% of customers on Vista. Here's how to start Install2.
- Insert the EQ5 CD.
- a)If a box pops up and you are given the option to "run setup.exe" or "browse
the CD to view files",
choose to Browse to view the files and skip to step 3.
b) If the installation starts up automatically and you don't get that option
box, click Cancel, then Exit Setup to stop the default EQ5 installation.
Then go to START > Computer. Right-click your CD drive and left-click Explore.
- Double-click the Install2 folder.
- Double-click the little blue-screen computer called "setup" or "setup.exe". It is an application file.
This will start the Install2 installation and you should be fine now.
I can't change my printer in EQ6. There's no printer button when I click Page Setup. What can I do?
This was an undocumented change Microsoft made between the Vista beta and actual Vista they released. To correct this issue, please download and install the EQ6
Update. This will add a new menu option (FILE > Printer Setup) that will allow you to switch printers now.
Help, I can't get in my EQ6 program anymore. I keep getting a message that "EQ6 has stopped working."
This message is due to a Vista security setting. Here's how to stop the message and get back into your EQ6 software:
- Click START > Control Panel.
- In the column on the left, click Classic View.
- Double-click System.
- In the column on the left, click Advanced system settings.
- Under Performance, click the Settings button.
- Click the Data Execution Prevention tab.
- Set it to the first radio button. “For essential Windows programs and services ONLY”
- Click Apply, then OK.
Try double-clicking the EQ6 desktop icon again. You should be just fine now.
