Electric Quilt 6 Frequently Asked Questions
How to I use my EQ5 fabric palettes in EQ6?
EQ6 does not have a Palette Library, because it does not need it (you can copy one, several,
or a whole style of fabrics with a couple of clicks, so no Palette Library was needed).
To import an EQ5 palette into an EQ6 project:
- Open your EQ6 project.
- [Optional] Click the View Sketchbook button > click the Fabrics section. Click the Clear button to clear out the EQ6 default fabrics.
- Click Close to put the Sketchbook away.
- Click LIBRARIES > Fabric Library.
- Click Import > from Project.
- At the bottom of the Import Fabrics box, click the drop-down arrow at the end of the Files of Type box.
- Choose EQ5 Palettes.
- Browse to find the .PL5 palette file. It will be in one of three places:
C:\Program Files\Electric Quilt Company\EQ5\RES
C:\My Documents\My EQ5\user
C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\My Documents\My EQ5
- Select the palette name and click Open.
- You will now be in the Import Results section of the Fabric Library viewing the fabrics from that palette.
- You can add one, some, or all the fabrics from the import.
To add one: click to select the fabric, click Add to Sketchbook.
To add a range: click to select the first fabric, hold down SHIFT, click the last fabric, click Add to Sketchbook.
To add scattered items: click to select the first fabric, hold down CTRL, click on other fabrics, click Add to Sketchbook.
To add all: click to select one, press CTRL+A on your keyboard, click Add to Sketchbook.
- Repeat steps 5-11 if you want to import from other palettes.
- Click Close when you are done adding fabrics.
- To see and color with your fabrics, click the Paintbrush tool.
Note: When you close the library, the import results will disappear.
To save an EQ5 palette in your EQ6 Fabric Library:
- Do steps 1-10 above.
- Click to select one fabric in the results and press CTRL+A to Select All.
- Click the Copy button at the bottom of the library.
- Click the My Library section.
- If you do not have a My Library created, see page 143 of the User Manual, and create one.
- Click a style in your newly added library.
- Click the Paste button.
- Click Save Library.
- Click Close when you are done saving fabrics.
How can I download fabric swatches from the Web, into EQ6?
Find a website with individual swatches.
- If it is a small swatch, click on it to see if there is a larger view.
- Right-click on the swatch to "save picture as" -- you can leave it set for
JPEG. Make sure the "Save in:" window is where you want to save, and remember
where you are saving.
- Go into EQ6, choose LIBRARIES > Fabric Library.
- Click Import > from Image Files.
- Browse to your swatches.
- Click the one you need (or use CTRL+A to copy them all).
- Click Open. You will now be on the Import Results section, looking at your swatches.
- You can either add them to a style in My Library so they can be used from all projects
or add them to the Sketchbook of just this project.
- Add to My Library: Select one, then click CTRL+A to select them all.
Click Copy, switch from the Import Results section to the My Library section. Select
a
style in one
of the
libraries you have
created. Paste them into the style and Save Library. (See page 143 in the EQ6 User
Manual if you have
not
already made
a My
Library space
for your
fabric.)
- Add to Sketchbook: Select one, then click CTRL+A to select them all.
Click Add to Sketchbook.
How can I use my panel print in EQ6? It keeps repeating the design when I color with it.
To use your fabric panel as one large piece, to fill a large square or rectangular space in your quilt, import and use it as if it were a photo. See page 138 in the EQ6 User Manual for importing your panel (as if it were a photo). See page 174 for how to set it, using the Set Photo tool.
