Electric Quilt 5 Frequently Asked Questions

When I’m in Print Preview, why can't I zoom in
to enlarge what is on screen?

The zoom in EQ5 works a bit differently than it does in EQ4. On EQ4 you could click, and it would zoom your view, though you had no control over where, or how much, it zoomed. In EQ5 you can select the area you want to see enlarged, thereby controlling the zoom.

To zoom while in Print Preview, click the Zoom In button. The cursor will change to a magnifying glass indicating you’re in "zoom mode." Drag out a marquee rectangle for the area you want to zoom. Click the Zoom Out button to return to the previous view. Click Fit to Screen to return to normal view.

I have more than one printer. Can I choose the printer from within the program?
Check out p.156 of the Design Cookbook.

  1. On the FILE menu, point to Print, and click the type of printout you want to do.
  2. Click the Page Setup button.
  3. Click the Printer button.
  4. Choose your Printer from the drop-down menu of printers your computer is hooked up to.

*(For Fabric Yardage, you need to choose FILE-Page Setup to specify the printer, since there is not Page Setup button on that pop-up box.)

When I tried to print out a quilt that had the notions embroidery on it, it didn't show up, did I do something wrong?
Did you click the "Showing fabrics" button on the Print Quilt dialog box? The embroidery should show up.

How do I print the border for the quilt in Getting Started Lesson 5?Since the blocks in the border are triangles, EQ actually puts a square block of color into the block. So do this to get the clipped triangle you want:

  1. Click WORKTABLE - Work on Block.
  2. Click BLOCK - New Block - EasyDraw. You'll see the plain block.
  3. Draw a diagonal line through your block, dividing it in half.
  4. Click the Color tab.
  5. Color the block the three colors you used in your border for the different size triangles.
  6. Click WORKTABLE - Work on Quilt.
  7. On the Layer 1 tab, set the new half-square triangle block you drew into all of the triangles in the border. You can recolor them if you wish, and if necessary, rotate them so you do not see the diagonal line you've drawn.
  8. Click the Select tool.
  9. Click the border block, to select it.
  10. Click Print - Template.
  11. Click the Size from quilt box.
  12. Print. You'll get a template for the border triangle. Do the other triangle sizes in your border the same way.

You can print the colored corner square by just clicking on it with the Select tool, then printing, as above.
