EQ5 Installation Destination Paths

How do I install EQ5 in a special location I specify?
To install EQ5 in a location other than the default, follow the steps below.

  1. Uninstall EQ5 if it is currently installed.
  2. Reboot your computer.
  3. Place the EQ5 CD in the CD-ROM drive. If the installation program starts, skip to step 7.
  4. If the installation program does not start automatically, double-click on My Computer.
  5. Double-click on the CD-ROM drive containing the EQ5 CD. If the installation program does not start automatically, complete step 6 otherwise skip to step 7.
  6. Double-click on the SETUP.EXE file. The EQ5 installation will begin.
  7. You’ll see a Welcome dialog. Read the words, and then click the NEXT button.
  8. You’ll see a License Agreement dialog. Read the agreement, and click YES.
  9. You’ll see a User Information dialog. Type in your name.
  10. Type in your serial number found on the back of your Getting Started manual.
  11. Once you have put text in all three fields of this dialog, the NEXT button will become enabled. Click the NEXT button.
  12. You’ll see a Choose destination location for EQ5 application files dialog.
  13. To change to a different location, click the Browse button.
  14. You’ll see the Choose Folder dialog.
  15. To change Drive letters, click the down arrow under Drives: and click on the drive letter where you want to install EQ5.
  16. The drive letter will then appear in the Path: typing box.
  17. Now the important step is to remember to type a folder name. Click to place the cursor in the typing box and type EQ5. In this example we are installing to the P drive in a folder called EQ5.
  18. Click OK.
  19. When you click OK, you’ll see the following message box:
  20. Click YES. You do want to create the folder called EQ5. You can title the folder whatever you like, but it is important to always put the files into an existing folder or create a new one as we did here.
  21. Next you will see the original dialog box. Notice that the Destination folder is the one you just requested.
  22. Click the NEXT button.

  1. Now you’ll see a Choose destination location for your project and library files dialog box. It looks very similar to the previous dialog. Be sure to go slowly and read each dialog box carefully. Notice that the default destination for the files you create is C:\My Documents\My EQ5. We want to choose our own location and we want to put them with the other files in P:\EQ5.
  2. To change the location, click the Browse button.
  3. You’ll see the Choose Folder dialog.
  4. To change Drive letters, click the down arrow under Drives: and click the P drive.
  5. The drive letter will then appear in the Path: typing box.
  6. Now use the scrollbar in the Directories listing to find the EQ5 folder that was created previously and double-click it. You should see P:\EQ5 in the Path: typing box.
  7. Click OK.
  8. You’ll return to the dialog. Once again, notice that the Destination folder is the one you just requested.

  1. Click the NEXT button.
  2. Now you’ll need to select the type of installation you’d like. You’ll see the Setup Type dialog box. In this example we’ll keep the Typical installation.

Typical installation = 244 MB
The typical (recommended installation includes a large embroidery library and two extra fabric library files of scanned fabrics, over 3000 scanned fabrics. It also includes the help videos.

Compact installation = 90 MB
The minimum hard-disk space required for EQ5 is 90 MB. If you choose a compact installation, you'll get a small embroidery library and an extra fabric library of scanned fabrics organized by color. It does not include the help videos.

Custom
You'll never need to use this method.

  1. Click the NEXT button.
  2. You’ll see a progress meter and percentage gauge change as files are being installed to your computer. When all the files have been copied to your hard-drive. You’ll see the final dialog box.

  1. Choose YES to reboot your computer. If you choose NO, be sure to reboot your computer before you run EQ5.
  2. After your computer has rebooted, you’ll see the EQ5 icon on your Desktop.
  3. Double-click the EQ5 icon to start EQ5.
  4. You’ll be up and running!! Enjoy!
