Electric Quilt 4 Frequently Asked Questions
Sometimes it takes a very long time to close the Fabric Library dialog. Why?
If you have copied any of the fabrics from the designer libraries, or if you have copied your own scanned fabrics, it does take longer for the dialog to close. When you click on the Close button, EQ looks at all the new fabrics added to the project and updates the project with the colors needed to make those fabrics. This is the reason you see more color chips when you look at the Color tab of the Sketchbook.
I do not own a scanner. How can I use the My Library files?
You can browse EQ4's huge fabric library and sort your favorite fabrics into the My Library files. This will make it fast and easy for you to find them.
Why won't the Designer Fabrics (or the STASH fabrics) open from the EQ4 library?
You need to have the CD in the drive before you open the Fabric Library.
- Close the Fabric Library.
- Put the EQ4 CD in your drive.
- Open the Fabric Library.
- Double-click on the Designer Fabrics (or STASH fabrics).
If you are following the steps above, and you still do not get the fabrics, then it may be that your program is looking at the wrong letter drive for your CD-ROM drive. Please try this:
- Click on Start.
- Point to Programs - Accessories - Click on Notepad or WordPad, either one will work.
- When the word processor program is open, click on File, Open.
- The Look In: box needs to show the Windows folder opened up. If something else appears in this box, scroll to find the Windows folder. Double-click on it to open it. Now the Look In: box will show an open Windows folder.
- In the Filename: box type, EQ98.INI
- Click on OK.
- The file will open.
- If you are looking for the EQ Designer Fabrics, look for the line: DsgnFabs=G:\LIB\
If you are looking for the STASH Fabrics, look for the line: STASH=G:\LIB\
Note: The "G" represents the letter of the CD-ROM drive. Make sure the letter name of your CD ROM drive is here. If it is not, edit the file very carefully (do not make a mistake here or you will affect EQ4) to put your CD ROM drive letter name here, then save the file.
Can I use fabrics from the Web in EQ4?
Yes. You can download fabrics from any Web site. Normally you right-click on a fabric and save it as a bitmap. Then, in another image editing software be sure that the bitmap has:
- No more than 256 colors
- No greater resolution than 72 - 75 dots per inch
- No greater image size than 200 x 200 pixels
