Page 19; Step 13
Book says: "You will also see Sew Precise or BlockBase if you have these programs on your computer."
Correction: You will also see Sew Precise or BlockBase if you have these programs on your computer and have linked them to EQ4. Linking information is in the EQ4 Readme.doc.
Page 35; Step 52

Correction: The box is not automatically checked. Click it to check it.
Page 35; Step 52
Book says: "In Step #38 we made the block size 6.00 x 6.00."

Page 30; Illustration captions
The two captions for the Tile On Point border styles are switched.
Correction: The border style labeled "Tile On Point Corners" should say "Tile On Point." The border style labeled "Tile On Point" should say "Tile On Point Corners."
Page 38; Note
Book says: "You must decide on the overall size of your quilt, borders included, before settings blocks into a Country Set layout."
Correction: Ignore the note. You may change the border size at any time. This improvement was made after the book went to press.
Page 39; Note
Book says: "To set a block of a certain size, shape or rotation, choose Layers Options on the QUILT menu..."
Correction: We changed EQ4 (taking off the Layers tab) to make it easier. You now use the Graph Pad to resize a quilt block on the Country Set quilt layout. See Graph Pad information.
Page 57; Renaming Your Library
The directions on p.57 of the EQ4 Design Cookbook are correct from 1-4. However, an additional step must be added when renaming a library. All of the steps are listed below.
- On the LIBRARIES menu, click Add block.
- Click once on the library you want to rename. The name will become highlighted.
- Click on the word (library name) again. A box will form around it.
- Type your new name (up to 32 characters long). The old name will disappear as you type.
- Click on a style.
- Click Save Library.
- If the style has blocks in it there will be a message saying, "Your blocks have been saved in the library!" You've saved your new library name.
- If the style does not have blocks in it there will be a message saying, "There are no items in this style. Rewrite?" Click Yes. Now you will receive the message saying, "Your blocks have been saved in the library!" You've saved your new library name.
- Click Close when you are finished renaming the library.
Page 57; Renaming Your Style
The directions on p.57 of the EQ4 Design Cookbook are correct if there are blocks in the style. However, if you want to change a style name before you've added blocks there is one change to step 5 that is listed below.
Perform steps 1-4 the same as they are printed on p.57 and then continue with the following steps.
Step #5 Click Save Library. A message saying, "There are no items in this style. Rewrite?" Click Yes. Now you will receive the message saying, "Your blocks have been saved in the library!" You've saved your new style name.
Step #6 Click Close when you are finished renaming the library.

Book says: "Values can range from 2 to 12."
Correction: Values can range from 1 to 10.
EQ4 Magic
Page 94 - 95: Illustrations for Step 22 on ...
Book shows: The original block, Starry Path, instead of newly drawn block, Interwoven Star.
Correction: From Step 22 on, your screen will show the new block you have drawn, with lines you have moved from their original orientation in the Starry Path block.
EQ4 Simplified
I get an "unreadable polygon" error when doing Lesson 5 "Starstuck!" in
EQ4 Simplified. What's wrong?
Fran Gonzalez, author of EQ4 Simplified, answers: A polygon error or unreadable polygon usually indicates a serious drawing problem and the most likely suspect is the last block that you drew or modified. In this case, the culprit is probably the enlarged Lone Star. It's possible that when you resized the star, part of it extended beyond the quilt border, causing a problem. Unfortunately, if the quilts in your Quilt Sketchbook are gone, the bad block has corrupted your entire project. If you can open your Block Sketchbook, you can save your block designs, although you'll have to reconstruct your quilt layout in a new project file. Now you're going to try to save whatever you can from this bad file before you trash it. Do the following:
- Open the project and "Save As" under another name. (Do this whenever you are trying to salvage a project. If your salvage operation doesn't work, you can go back to the original, corrupted project and try another tactic.)
- Open the Block Sketchbook and delete the last block that you drew or modified before you started having trouble, which in this case is probably the enlarged Lone Star.
- Save the other blocks and your fabric palette to the Libraries. A word of warning here: There is a good chance that this "Save As" copy will be contaminated with the problems of the original file, even though you eliminated the offending block. The temptation is to recopy or redraw the offending block design and proceed with designing your project again, but it is safer, by far, to start over with a completely new project.
- Start over with new project, opening My Library and getting out the blocks and palette that you saved in the Libraries.
- After your new project has been completed, go into your file manager and delete the corrupted project and the "Save As" copy.
IMPORTANT NOTE: When you resize the Lone Star block in your new project file, resize to 275% instead of 300%. This just gives you a little more leeway and should prevent the polygon error from occurring again.
