Electric Quilt 4 Frequently Asked Questions
I need EQ2 or EQ3 on my computer to run EQ4?
No. EQ4 is a complete, stand-alone program. You do not need EQ2 or EQ3 to run EQ4.
How do I delete EQ2 or EQ3 from my computer?
To delete EQ2 or EQ3 from your computer:
- On the Win 95/98 Desktop, double-click on My Computer.
- Double-click on C drive (or the drive where EQ3 or EQ2 is installed).
- Click on the EQ3 or EQ2 folder once, to highlight it.
- Click on the FILE menu, choose Delete.
- Click on the Yes button, to send EQ3 or EQ2 to the recycling bin.
I saved an EQ3 project in EQ4. Why don't I see it on the EQ4 project list?
If you don't see your project in the EQ4 project list, it is because you did not save it in EQ4. You were in EQ4, but you just clicked on Save, and the EQ3 project got saved in the EQ3 project folder, which was open. When you have opened an EQ3 project, and want to save it in EQ4, you must do this:
- On the FILE menu, click on Save As.
- On the Save As dialog box click the down arrow beside the "Save in" box. You will see
that the EQ3 project folder is open. (You do not want to save the project
in this EQ3 folder -- so you need to scroll to the EQ4 project folder.)
- Click on C: (or the drive on which EQ4 is installed).
- Double-click on the EQ4 folder.
- Double-click on the PRJ folder.
- Click on the Save button.
So if you want to use EQ3 projects, take some time to make sure you navigate to EQ4's PRJ file when you save them. If you remove EQ3 from your computer you will lose all projects in EQ3. So open the EQ3 projects in EQ4 and resave them in EQ4 if you want to keep them.
How do I open a BlockBase 1 project in EQ4?
To open a BlockBase project from EQ4:
- Click the Open an Existing Project tab
OR
On the FILE menu, click Open.
- Click the folder in the bottom-left corner marked "Click here to open a project not listed above." This brings up a standard Windows search directory, allowing you to open a folder anywhere on your computer.
- Click the down arrow eside the Look in box, to drop the list.
- Scroll to find the hard drive on which BlockBase is installed (normally C:\) and click on it.
- Double-click the BB1 folder.
- Double-click the PRJ folder.
- Click the down arrow beside Files of type and choose EQ3 Projects.
- Click the project name, to select it.
- Click the Open button.
Note: To save the project, do not just click Save. This will save the project back in BlockBase's PRJ folder -- right where you got it from. Instead, use Save As, and follow the directions on page 14-15 of your EQ4 Design Cookbook under "Saving a New Block or Quilt When a Project Does Not Exist." These steps show you how to navigate to open the EQ4 PRJ folder and save the project there.
Can I give my EQ3 away once I've upgraded to EQ4?
You may give away EQ3 (or EQ2). But please make sure that whoever you give the program to fully understands that:
- They are not entitled to any technical support -- you will need to handle all of their tech support.
- They cannot register the program, nor are they entitled to any upgrading discount for future programs.
- The program may not work well with the new . Windows Only. printers, so they may experience difficulty printing.
It is important that they realize that you are giving them a program that you have already used up the registered user rights for, when you upgraded. So the person you give the program to has no connection with us. If they do not fully understand this, it may cause them to think badly of our company for a product we never sold them.
How do I save a STASH project in the PRJ folder in EQ4 so it's with all my other projects?
In EQ4, have the STASH project open. Then:
- On the FILE menu, choose Save as.
- Click the down arrow beside the Save in box, to drop the list.
- Click the EQ4 folder, to open it.
- Double-click the PRJ folder, to open it. Now any projects you save will be saved in the PRJ folder inside EQ4 (where your other EQ4 projects are saved).
- Click the Save button.
I opened a STASH shopping bag in EQ4, made a quilt and saved the project. Why isn't the project in my list?
Your project is in the STASH directory you're looking in the PRJ directory. When you open a shopping bag project, and then save it in EQ4, EQ4 saves your STASH bag project in the same place it first got saved in the Stash directory in EQ4. It does save it as a *.PJ4 project. To find your project:
- In EQ4, click the Open an Existing Project tab (it appears immediately when you open EQ4).
- Click the folder in the bottom-left corner of the Open an Existing Project tab (marked "Click here to open a project not listed above"). This brings up the standard Windows search directory, allowing you to open a folder anywhere on your computer.
- Click the down arrow beside the Look in box.
- Click the EQ4 folder.
- Double-click the Stash folder.
- Double-click the Bag folder. You will see your bag project here.
- Click the project name.
- Click the Open button. You will now have your project in the Sketchbook. If you want to save it in the EQ4 PRJ folder (where EQ4 projects are normally saved) follow the directions below for saving a Stash project in the PRJ folder in EQ4.
I get the message "Library Files are corrupted." What should I do?
If you receive the message, "Library file data is corrupt." After
linking EQ4 to BlockBase, it means that EQ4 is having difficulty reading the BlockBase files.
To correct this, do the following:
- Find the LIB folder inside the BB1 folder.
- Rename the folder LIBB.
- Then create a new folder giving it the original name of LIB.
- Copy all of the files from the LIBB folder into the LIB folder. That's it. You're done.
