This quilt was designed to showcase 6" blocks I received in an exchange with
one of my quilting bees. There is no physical resemblance between these quilters
and the real ladies in my bee, in order to protect the innocent. Faces are from
the Viking embroidery library in the embroidery upgrade for EQ5. I purchased the
set so I could actually make this quilt!

The T Square blocks for this quilt were from a bee exchange several years ago.
I contemplated for a long time about what to do with the plain muslin centers in
the blocks, which were otherwise made from murky fabrics. I finally decided to
applique folk art motifs into those empty-looking spaces, and I have just completed
stitching a top that is very similar to this design.

All blocks are from the block library. I just recolored to better match my kitchen
colors and flipped the right hand blocks to look more like my kitchen windows.
As Spring comes and I set flowers out during the warm days to "harden" these
scenes represent what I see through my kitchen windows as I wash dishes etc.

BlockBase 2192 or Dutch Puzzle (Aunt Martha) was used for the base block. I then
merged the butterflies from the EQ Library into the centre. This quilt uses a horizontal
setting. I made a block to fit in the border blocks which is a duplicate of one side
of BlockBase 2192.

merged the butterflies from the EQ Library into the centre. This uses the on-point

sashing which is a duplicate of one side of BlockBase 2192.

Watching the snow this weekend I just knew I had to do snowflakes. The cat I had
drawn some time ago from a picture of my "grandcat" and just made it a
silhouette. The corners were done like scollwork and also the folds in the fabric.

I filled this quilt with the same Blocks I used as the Layout: Log Cabin 2. For
Borders I used the Auto Borders Tool > miscellaneous > handkerchief edge

This is another version with rotated Blocks in other colours.

Challenge option #2: "Edit a block with squares or rectangles. Draw your second
block inside one of these spaces ..."
Instead of drawing, I copied the block 'Tangled Stars' into the center of the 'Feather
Star' block. If I ever sew a feathered star in real life, it will be an only child
so this is a one-block quilt.
This challenge was easy so I also experimented with the 'Set Thread' tool to soften
the block outlines.

Challenge option #3: "Use the new EQ6 "Merge Block" feature to put
one block in the square space of another block ..."
The block 'Spring Flowers Corner' showed up in my sketchbook after I played with
the auto-borders feature. I set this block into itself twice to get a three-spring
block. I then drew a sash to connect the straight bands of the block.
More experimentation with the Set Thread option on layer 1 -- love this feature!

Using the "Create Quilt from Block" feature, I chose High Flying Squares
as the layout and inserted various tree blocks that I found in the EQ6 block library.
The rope-like border was created using the "Auto Borders" feature.

This quilt plays with creating a quilt from a block. The block used to create the
quilt is "Flying Squares". Then I simply plugged in other blocks and did
some coloring with the new fabrics in EQ6 and the next thing I knew I felt like I
was walking in the woods. This must be due to the weather starting to warm up in
Texas and I want to go camping.

This quilt plays with "merging" one block into another block. I modeled
this quilt after the articles I had read in quilting magazines on barns being painted
with quilt blocks.

This quilt uses my first try designing the block in a block. With the peonies pointing

I am actually making a long, narrow wall hanging quilt with these animal appliques
right now and they are fabulous! I am doing them in batiks.
