Wedgewood Valance |
Coloring a quilting stencil block led to this wonderful
applique design for the focus block of this mantle topper.
Blocks on-point were set on Layer 2. The setting triangles
were drawn with PatchDraw and also set on Layer 2.

I love the tranditional look of Wedgewood china. The lace
embroidery and quilting design in white reminded me of this
china. This valance might look good hanging from a shelf.
The lace embroidery patterns were rotated from the Graph
Pad. The scalloped edges of the valance are "virtual"
borders, which are motif blocks set on Layer 2.

Log Cabin Mantel Cover |
Well, I gradually got carried away with this project. I
made the stockings first, then muffled through the mantle
cover. Then...experimented with my dogs photos, put them
in frames & decorated the top as the mantle shelf. All
in fun, of course. All the blocks are from EQ library...most
are modified. The alphabet letters in the library had their
sections separated, I moved them together, rotated, resized,
etc. The pictures wont look nice on the web, but if you
zoom in, they look much better.

Autumn Leaves Mantle/Shelf Topper |

36"x6" Main rectangle. For the loose hanging
leaves, place fabric wrong sides together with fusable webbing
in between and iron. Cut out leaf shapes and stitch their
tops in the seamline of three sides of the main rectangle.
Use decrative stitching around leafs if desired. Knife edge
bind rectangles fourth edge. Quilt as desired.
Very easy project.

Snow Dance - Valance |
24"x13" Valence. I have space between the top
of my white, kitchen cabinets and the ceiling. This valence
can hide all the "stuff" we stick up there. With
knife edge binding this repeating design can cover various
width cabinets and look like a continuous flowing design,
yet still leaving openings to get behind and retrieve "stuff".
I can even put one over my window.

I have also designed a Christmas tree skirt along the same
theme - they would make a great set for your holiday decor.
You can see a picture of the skirt on my website.

This simple topper could easily be adapted to the length
of any matel. It is composed of just one plain block, multiple
points, and Luminosity, a luscious fabric designed by Paula
Nadelstern.

My second mantel topper is based on the same layout. But
this time I incorporated Contempo, a gorgeous fabric designed
by Rebecca Yaffe which reminded me of Thanksgiving and cranberries.

I immediately thought "STOCKINGS" when I saw
this challenge. I realize that if you had these attached
to a runner you would probably need a large plate of cookies
(for Santa of course!) on either end of the mantel in order
to keep the stockings from pulling the topper off of it!
In order to keep the size of this project file from being
too large, I used solid colours in most of the pieces and
only used a few of the Christmas palette fabrics here and
there.

Snowflake Mantel Topper |
Claudia C. |
I had designed the snowflake applique for the December
2003 clubEQ Challenge - ROUND QUILTS. I worked on it some
more, made some changes and then used it on this Mantel
topper. The little round balls on the hanging edges would
probably be some kind of bead or bobble trim.
